Police: Mother may have stabbed 3-year-old girl during beating

Beaufort police have released more details in the case of a severely injured toddler.

Police said Dionna Hagood, 3, remains at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Police responded to the Cross Creek Apartment Complex just before 10:30 p.m. Monday on a report of a child falling off a balcony.

But after investigating, police say the injuries were found to be intentional.

Dionna was severely beating and possibly stabbed after being thrown off of the third-floor stairwell balcony at her apartment, according to Beaufort police.

Her mother, Shayla Bryan, 22, has been charged with attempted murder. Police said she admitted to assaulting her daughter prior to calling 911.

The motive is still unclear, according to police.

Those with information in the case should contact Investigator Dowling at 843.322.7950 or the 24 hour dispatch office at 843.524.2777.
