NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Narcotics agents seized almost 50 pounds of marijuana worth about $245,000 and arrested two people this week in North Charleston.
The North Charleston Police Department's Narcotic Unit began an investigation into several suspects believed to be trafficking marijuana throughout the Tricounty.
During the investigation, police officers observed large amounts of high grade marijuana being delivered to numerous locations throughout the Tricounty. Investigators identified two subjects that appeared to be running the trafficking organization within the area.
On Tuesday, police arrested 40-year-old Jackie Nguyen and 39-year-old Thong Ho, both of 105 Barlow Drive in Summerville. Both are charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and are being held at the Charleston County Detention Center.
Seven additional people were arrested during the operation on charges ranging from simple possession of marijuana to trafficking marijuana.
While executing a search warrant in the case, investigators seized 49.13 pounds of marijuana, with an estimated street value of $245,000. They also seized .5 grams of cocaine, thousands of dollars in cash and several handguns and assault rifles.
Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester County sheriff's deputies and Goose Creek police officers assisted with the investigation and execution of warrants.
The investigation is ongoing.
