Goaltender Jeff Jakaitis stopped all 21 shots as the Gwinnett Gladiators (14-8-6-3) shutout the South Carolina Stingrays (15-12-1-1) 4-0 Monday night at The Arena at Gwinnett Center.
The Gladiators broke open the scoring 1:42 into the second period when forward Andy Brandt lifted a shot past the blocker of Stingrays netminder Philipp Grubauer (L, 23 saves on 27 shots) from the bottom or the left-wing circle. Forwards Pat Galivan and Ryley Grantham earned the assists. Moments later, forward Chris Clackson gave the Gladiators a two-goal lead at 3:13 from forwards Justin Milo and Tyler Murovich. Milo made it 3-0 with his second of the season at 13:40 with help from former Stingrays forward Nikita Kashirsky.
Forward Bryan Brutlag completed the game scoring at 12:01 of the final period from forward Colin Vock. The Stingrays ended the night 0-for-4 on the power play while the Gladiators went 0-for-8.
The Stingrays continue their road trip tomorrow night, Tuesday, December 27 against the Greenville Road Warriors at 7:35 p.m. at the Bi-Lo Center and return to the North Charleston Coliseum Saturday, December 31 against the Florida Everblades for FIRST Robotics Night presented by Google and a New Year's Eve bash with a postgame balloon drop at 6:05 p.m.
