CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - State troopers arrested two men late Monday night after a high-speed chase ended in a single-vehicle wreck in downtown Charleston.
South Carolina Highway Patrol arrested 22-year-old Rashad Gregory and 21-year-old Shane Jenkins for their alleged roles in the chase with state troopers, Corporal Bob Beres said Tuesday.
Beres said the chase began around 10:30 p.m. Monday when a trooper saw a 2011 Volkswagen speeding on Interstate 26 eastbound at mile marker 214 near Dorchester Road. Beres said the pursuit, which lasted about 16 minutes, took troopers through Mt. Pleasant and back into Charleston before they lost sight of the vehicle.
Sometime later that night, Beres said the vehicle crashed at the corner of Nassau and Stuart Streets.
Beres could not confirm which of the suspects was driving the vehicle. Additional charges have not been ruled out, Beres said.
Jenkins has been convicted before for public disorderly conduct and drug possession while Gregory has also been convicted of drug possession and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
