4-acre brush fire in Awendaw contained

AWENDAW, SC (WCSC) - A four-acre brush fire in Awendaw burned for almost three hours before it was contained Tuesday.

The fire started around 2 p.m. Tuesday in the 5400 block of Sewee Road. Fire crews and SC Forestry Commission workers contained the fire just before 5 p.m.

Awendaw Battalion Chief Bo Bowers said the blaze was threatening two homes, but they were not damaged. The fire grew to about 4 acres before being contained.

Officials say the fire started as a debris burn and no buildings suffered damage.

Fire officials warn not to burn brush or debris outside during the cold weather due to low humidity.
