Charleston county councilman jumps to Republican party

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston County Councilman Elliott Summey has followed his father's footsteps and has changed political parties.

Summey says the party change is something he's been considering for the past few years.

He says his values, like fiscal conservatism and promoting economic development, are more in line with Republicans.

Summey was first elected to the council in 2008 as a North Charleston Democrat.

His father, North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey, made the same move more than two decades ago.
