Woman accused of hitting firefighters with car charged with felony DUI

GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - The woman accused of drunkenly hitting two firefighters with her car in Goose Creek is now facing felony DUI charges.

SC Highway Patrol charged 25-year-old Jessica Lanier with driving under the influence when she allegedly ran into two firefighters that were responding to a separate accident on US-176 near Walmart in mid-October. Those charges were upgraded on Thursday night.

If convicted, Lanier could face up to 25 years in prison.

According to the incident report from October 19, two firefighters wearing reflective fire gear were walking towards an emergency vehicle when Lanier's 2011 Mazda struck both of them. The force of the impact then flung both of the victims onto the left side of an emergency vehicle.

One firefighter suffered a fractured left ankle while the other had a fractured left leg. Both were taken to Trident Medical Center and were later released.

Lanier told authorities that she had three beers over the course of three hours.
