A fire in the 100 block of Garnett Drive in Monks Corner completely destroyed a mobile early Monday morning, but the homeowner was able to escape the flames.
The call came in to the Whitseville Fire Department around 4:45 a.m. and firefighters responded to the fully engulfed mobile home.
It took crews approximately 20 minutes to contain the fire. The home owner made it out of the home without any injuries and said his neighbor probably saved his life.
"He pushed the door open," said homeowner Iziah Johnson. "As soon as he pushed the bedroom door open the smoke came out and we saw the fire."
A charred skeleton shell is all that remains of the home.
Firefighters say the victim had a fire in the home earlier in the afternoon or in the evening. He went to bed and was woke up by his cousin. He came back out and they took a couple buckets of water and put that fire out.
"The key is he lost everything over a small fire he had earlier in the afternoon," said Whitesville Fire Chief Timothy Stephenson. "Simply calling the fire department making sure they come out and check that, you can alleviate any disaster situation such as this gentleman has suffered."
The American Red Cross was called to assist the home owner.
