Mt. Pleasant amends budget to buy dash cams for police cars

The Mount Pleasant City Council has amended the city budget in order to buy new dash cams for all of its police cruisers.

The council approved the adjustments to the budget in a meeting Tuesday night in order to spend $95,000 on new cameras.

Councilman Elton Carrier says buying new dash cams for all police cruisers was mandated by federal officials.

The city had planned to do it little by little, but federal officials wanted it done now.

They say the city's police cruisers didn't have up-to-date dash cams in order to record DUI arrests.
