Forward Mike Hamilton scored the game-winning goal in his Stingrays debut and Philipp Grubauer made 31 saves to lead the South Carolina Stingrays (18-16-1-1) over the Kalamazoo Wings (19-12-1-2) with a 2-1 victory at Wings Stadium Wednesday night.
Wings forward Justin Taylor opened the scoring late in the first period tapping a pass from forward Nick Sirota between the legs of Grubauer at 18:48. Just over a minute later, Stingrays defenseman Paul Baier lit the lamp for his second goal of the season ripping a shot over the glove of Wings keeper Riley Gill (L, 36 saves on 38 shots) at 19:51.
Hamilton found the twine at 7:21 of the third period deflecting a feed from forward Chris Doyle past the glove of Gill on top of the crease. Forward David de Kastrozza grabbed the second assists. Both teams finished the night 0-for-1 on the power play.
