Coast Guard suspends search for missing boater

COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Search and rescue crews have suspended their search at St. Helena Sound for a missing boater.

Crews were looking for 53-year-old Gregory Moss of North Myrtle Beach. Search and rescue controllers at Coast Guard Sector Charleston were notified by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources at 9:17 p.m. on Thursday of Moss' disappearance.

It was reported that Moss was aboard a 14-foot fishing boat with one other person when it reportedly capsized. The second person successfully swam to Ashe Island and was later picked up by another boater.

Moss was last seen attempting to swim ashore. He was not wearing a life jacket.

Two Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crews from Air Station Savannah, Ga., a 25-foot rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Tybee Island, three South Carolina Department of Natural Resources boat crews and one fixed wing aircraft conducted a search throughout Friday.
