CBS 'Face the Nation' host discusses GOP race in SC

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

CBS "Face the Nation" host Bob Schieffer spoke to Live 5 News on his thoughts on the GOP primary in South Carolina.

Although Schieffer said he doesn't know if Newt Gingrich or Rick Santorum can beat Mitt Romney's winning streak in South Carolina, Schieffer said they might due to Super PACs.

"Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum didn't finish all that well in New Hampshire and in a usual campaign they would be already out of it by now," Schieffer said. "A man in Las Vegas gave Newt Gingrich's Super PAC $5 million and that's going to instant TV commercials that will be seen all over the state."

Schieffer says he's not counting anyone out just yet, but says if Romney does win in South Carolina it will be a challenge for the other candidates.

"I think it's going to be pretty hard for anybody to beat [Romney] if he does win South Carolina," Schieffer said. "Everybody that's won the Republican nomination lately and has been elected president won South Carolina."
