CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – The man arrested Monday in connection with the murder of a pregnant woman Friday night apparently was desperate for money after he was released from prison in November and then hired at the Flying Biscuit cafe just weeks later.

Mark Anthony Cox's last Facebook status update was posted right when he was hired at the cafe on December 20 and said, "MONEY MONEY MONEY!!!"

According to his Facebook page, Cox has a 2-year-old daughter and posted some Christmas photos after his "MONEY MONEY MONEY!!!" status on Facebook.

Cox, who owed child support to the mother of his daughter, was very desperate for money the day before the robbery, according to a co-worker at the Flying Biscuit.

"That day the only thing he mentioned to me was his baby's mama had texted him the day before (the robbery) and wanted him to send her some money so he could move. And he says 'I'm not sending her any money, I don't have any money'," Renee Davis told WBTV.

Cox is originally from Lumberton and attended community college from Vance-Granville Community College after attending Westover High School in Fayetteville. He was captured by police in the Fayetteville area on Monday afternoon.

Cox is also on probation until July 28 after serving prison time for conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon in Edgecombe County, according to the N.C. Department of Corrections website.
