WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Police say they have taken one of three suspects into custody after a man chased down his assailants following an armed robbery in West Ashley early Tuesday morning.
Charleston Police Department has charged 24-year-old David Michael Coleman with armed robbery.
Police say the robbery occurred around 1 a.m. outside of a residence on Parkdale Drive, where a man was visiting a family member.
Authorities said the man was standing near his car when he was approached from behind by two of the suspects, who knocked him to the ground and took his cell phone and wallet.
The suspects then got into Honda Civic driven by Coleman, police say, but they were chased by the victim, who followed them to Castlewood Townhouses.
Police say two of the suspects then got out of the Civic and fired a gunshot at the victim's vehicle before running off. At this point, police say Coleman had driven off in the Civic, and the victim continued the chase.
Finally, Coleman and the man ended up in the Lowes parking lot on Glen McConnell Parkway, where the victim was able to call police.
Coleman was arrested in the parking lot and taken to the Charleston County Detention Center.
The other two suspects are described as black males, wearing all black clothing, between 20 to 40 years old, standing between 5'7" and 5'9" inches tall, and weighing between 185 and 200 pounds.
