Man arrested for breaking into several cars in downtown

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Investigators arrested a 49-year-old man accused of breaking into several cars in downtown.

Charleston police charged Jeffrey Alan Vickers with nine counts of breaking into a motor vehicle.

According to investigators the break-ins occurred between Dec. 28, 2011 and Jan. 10, 2012 on South Battery Street, King Street, Council Street, Church Street, New Street and Limehouse Street.

Items stolen during the break-ins include purses, cash, credit cards, checks, GPS systems, a digital camera, a radar detector and an iPod. Many of the items stolen were recovered during a search warrant executed at Vickers's home on Schooner Road, police say.

Vickers was being held in the Charleston County Detention Center.

Police are continuing the investigation.
