CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston police arrested a suspected drug dealer after officers found $7,000 worth of cocaine during a traffic stop in downtown Friday night.
Investigators charged 30-year-old Otis Henry Walker with trafficking cocaine.
An officer was on patrol when he observed the driver of a vehicle turn from Romney Street onto North Romney Street without giving the proper turn signal. Before the vehicle came to a complete stop, the officer says he observed the front passenger bend over in his seat as if as if he was placing something under his seat.
A police report states that due to this abnormal behavior, the officer thought the front seat passenger may be reaching for a weapon or hiding contraband.
He ordered all of the passengers out of the vehicle.
The officer conducted a consensual search of the front seat passenger for weapons and found $4,600 in his possession. Authorities say a consensual search underneath the front passenger seat revealed a plastic bag with six ounces of cocaine in it with a street value of $7,000.
Walker, who is on probation on narcotic charges, was being held in the Charleston County Detention Center.
