Firefighters extinguish apartment blaze in West Ashley

WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Firefighters from several departments extinguished a fire at an apartment complex off of Ashley River Road on Thursday evening.

Charleston Fire Department spokesman Mark Ruppel said crews from North Charleston, City of Charleston, and St. Andrews fire departments responded to a fire call at the Woodbridge Apartments, located near Tobias Gadsden Boulevard, at 5:30 p.m.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke, but were able to quickly extinguish the fire.

The American Red Cross says eleven people including four children were affected by the fire. The Red Cross is providing aid to the families depending on the extent of damage done to each apartment unit.

No one was injured.  The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
