BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Three men are behind bars Friday after a drug bust in Berkeley County. The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office says it locked up three suspected drug dealers earlier this month.

On Jan. 6, deputies responded to a complaint of drug activity at a home on S. Cranford Road in the Goose Creek area. Deputies say they located various drug paraphernalia in the residence and approximately 5.2 gross grams of heroin at the home.

Investigators arrested and charged 29-year-old Christopher Hayes with trafficking heroin and unlawful possession of prescription drugs.

While conducting street level investigations in the area of Broughton Road in the Moncks Corner area last Monday, a traffic stop was made on a vehicle being driven erratically. Agents say they suspected that illegal drugs might be in the vehicle and following a K-9 alert, a search of the vehicle turned up 13.5 grams of methamphetamine.

Authorities charged 43-year-old Joseph Coltharp with trafficking methamphetamine.

After being stopped by deputies on a traffic violation at College Park Road and Highway 17-A on Thursday, 20-year-old Edmond Franklin of North Charleston was arrested on charges of trafficking cocaine, unlawful carrying of a pistol and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Drug enforcement agents say they searched Franklin prior to being place their vehicle and found a bag of cocaine. The sheriff's office says a firearm was found in the vehicle as well.
