NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -
A North Charleston police officer was taken to the hospital Friday morning after a car accident on Ashley Phosphate Road.
According to the North Charleston Police Department, the officer was traveling down Ashley Phosphate Road near Lincoln Boulevard in an unmarked 2008 Chevy when the driver of a Toyota tried to make a left turn and collided with the Chevy.
The driver of the Toyota, Kristle Cassel, was charged with failure to yield the right of way. The officer, Paul Hernandez, was transported to Roper St. Francis Hospital.
The accident is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Traffic was delayed in the area, but all roads are open in the area and traffic is back to normal.
