WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - A suspected thief broke into a washing machine at a West Ashley laundromat and stole $30 in quarters.
Charleston police were called out to Pierpont Laundry on Ashley River Road just after 1:30 p.m. Thursday after a complaint was received regarding coins being stolen from a washing machine at the business.
Officers interviewed the complainant who said that while on his lunch break, an unknown subject(s) pried out and stole the coin collector box on one of the washing machines. The box contained approximately $30 in quarters.
The subject also vandalized a second washing machine by prying the coin collector box area. The suspect was unable to pry out the coin box on the second machine. A hammer and screwdriver were left behind one of the washing machines that had been vandalized.
According to the complainant, the suspect caused about $400 in damage to the washing machines.
