CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - An inmate is still on the run after escaping from the Hill Finklea Detention Center last Thursday afternoon.
Investigators are looking for 39-year-old James Sanders who was being held on criminal domestic violence charges when he escaped.
Berkeley County officials say officers were getting ready to release Sanders after his bond hearing, but noticed he had more charges still pending against him.
While Sanders was in the holding area, he slipped out an employee door without any one noticing.
He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, dark shorts and no shoes. Deputies had received a tip that Sanders was picked up by a vehicle and taken to the MUSC area in downtown Charleston. Charleston police are assisting in the search for Sanders.
"We're in present time looking for this gentlemen trying to find him and locate him," said Berkeley County Sheriff's Office spokesman Dan Moon.
Deputies said they are already working to up security in the jail. No inmates will be allowed in that holding area where Sanders escaped and inmates will only be released in the front of the jail.
If you have any information on where Sanders could be, call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
