CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Many of us are getting ready for Super Bowl Sunday and that means cooking and grilling with friends.
John Haire, a chef with Jim 'N' Nick's, has some tips to make sure your food is safe and you and your friends don't get sick.
No matter what you're serving up for your party this weekend, the key to a great Super Bowl party is safety.
Haire said a good rule of thumb concerning how long you should leave meats out is based on what type of meat or food you're working with.
"Well a good rule of thumb is to keep the cold items, cold and hot items, hot," Haire said. "If it comes out of the refrigerator serve it cold. If it comes from the grill or out of the oven, keep it hot."
Haire said not to keep food out for more than an hour.
