5 families displaced after townhome fire in Summerville

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - The Summerville Fire Department was called out to an apartment fire around midnight Friday on Miles Jamison Road in Summerville.

The American Red Cross is assisting five families including nine children whose Summerfield Townhomes were destroyed by the late night blaze. Authorities say no one was hurt in the fire.

Property manager says out of the seven units located in this building, a total of three units have been completely destroyed and one has moderate damage.

The Red Cross providing emergency assistance to the families depending on their need. The families will receive financial assistance to help replace food and clothing lost in the fire.

Since January the Red Cross has assisted 126 people needing help due to home fires in the Lowcountry.
