JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - A joint legislative committee meeting in Columbia on James Island's incorporation scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed until Feb. 28.
Organizers for a new town of James Island have been continuing to move forward with attempts to become a town again.
Back in November, a group from James Island delivered a petition to the secretary of state with more than 1,700 signatures from voters and letters from county officials. There was also a feasibility study and proposed budget.
If the joint legislative committee approves the petition and proposed plan, the next step would be a referendum, meaning the voters would decide if James Island should be a town again.
The Town of James Island was dissolved in 2011.
