The South Carolina Stingrays (27-20-1-1) fell to the Greenville Road Warriors (27-17-1-2) 4-1 at the North Charleston Coliseum Tuesday night.
The Road Warriors started the scoring early in the first period with a power-play goal from forward Brett Robinson at 3:44 deflecting a Jeff Prough shot over the right shoulder of Stingrays goaltender Billy Sauer (L, 22 saves on 25 shots). Defenseman Lee Baldwin recorded the second assist. Forward Jeremy Gouchie made it 2-0 on the man advantage at 18:28 from Baldwin and Robinson.
Prough gave the Road Warriors a three goal lead on the power play at 13:38 of the second period from Baldwin and Gouchie. Forward Matt Scherer put the Stingrays on the board at 15:08 beating Road Warriors netminder Jason Missiaen (W, 36 saves on 37 shots) over the right pad from the top of the goal crease. Forward Joe Pereira and defenseman Derek Keller earned assists.
Road Warriors forward Brandon Wong sealed the victory with an empty-net goal at 18:34 of the third period from forwards Bretton Cameron and Sean Berkstresser. The Stingrays finished the contest 0-for-7 on the power play while the Road Warriors went 3-for-5.
The Stingrays host the Chicago Express for the first time in team history on Friday, February 10 at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum. "Superfan" Cameron Hughes will be getting the crowd pumped up!
