Guns, money and drugs confiscated in downtown investigation

The Charleston Police Department says a downtown investigation led to the arrests of three people and the discovery of handguns, a rifle, money and drugs.

On Thursday, members of the Charleston Police Department Special Investigations Unit, SWAT Team and team units executed search warrants at a home on Athens Court and two homes on Grove Street.

Officers say they confiscated five handguns, one with an obliterated serial number, a rifle, a shotgun, a gram of heroin, a gram of cocaine and almost $100 in cash at the home on Athens Court. Police charged 55-year-old Marvin Jerome Brown with possession of cocaine base, possession of heroin and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

At a home on Grove Street, authorities say they confiscated 16.5 grams of cocaine, 1.1 grams of heroin and more than $3,100 in cash. Investigators charged 31-year-old Xavier Williams with trafficking cocaine, possession of heroin and possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute within close proximity of a school.

At another home on Grove Street, officers say they confiscated 50 grams of cocaine, 15 grams of heroin, 76 grams of marijuana and $1,700 in cash. Officers charged 38-year-old Omar Gentile with trafficking heroin and possession of heroin with the intent to distribute within close proximity of a school.

Charleston Police also have issued arrest warrants for 44-year-old Maurice Gentile for trafficking cocaine, possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute within close proximity of a school and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.

Brown was being held in the Charleston County Detention Center under a bond of $275,000. Gentile is being held in the Charleston County Detention Center under a bond of $550,000.

Williams, who is on federal probation for a weapon's charge and who was out on bond for two counts of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and two counts of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute within close proximity of a school, is being held in the Charleston County Detention Center under a bond of $110,000.

The Charleston Police Department said that with the search warrants they have served in the past two days, members of the Special Investigations Unit have arrested 6 suspects and confiscated nine guns, 72.5 grams of cocaine, 34 grams of cocaine base, 17.1 grams of heroin, 76 grams of marijuana and almost $5,000 in cash.
