COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

A 55-year-old woman was flown to the hospital Saturday after a single car wreck on Cayce Road in Colleton County.

According to Colleton County Fire and Rescue officials, a Chrysler mini-van ran off the roadway after a curve and struck a tree around noon Saturday. The van received heavy front-end damage.

When emergency personnel arrived on scene they found the female driver entrapped in the van. She was conscious, but suffering from multiple traumatic injuries. Paramedics began treating the woman and requested a rescue unit.

Firefighters used Holmatro rescue tools to remove the driver's door to free the woman. She was removed from the can and transported to a nearby field so she could be boarded onto a medical helicopter.

She was flown to the trauma center at MUSC. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
