Barber shop owner comes to the rescue of victims in armed robbery

JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say an attempted armed robbery at a Johns Island barber shop on Tuesday was foiled by a neighboring business owner who took matters into his own hands.

According to investigators, the Genesis Hair Salon owner who goes by the name of Dell, came to the assistance of the Streamers Beauty on 1816 Bohicket Road after he heard an employee yelling about being robbed.

Deputies say Dell then walked in with his own gun. The suspect, 26-year-old James Patrick McIntyre, then ran from the beauty shop towards the Pizza Hut on Bohicket Road as the barber shop owner reportedly fired a warning shot.

"When I went outside, I saw him and I asked him to stop several times and he wouldn't," Dell said."So I chased him into the woods, fired a warning shot and asked him to stop. He wouldn't stop and he ran into the woods."

Deputies apprehended McIntyre behind that Pizza Hut a short time later. He was charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

A judge on Wednesday set McIntyre's bond at $100,000. No one was injured during the armed robbery.
