Mt. Pleasant mayor will not push to change town's form of government

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Mount Pleasant Mayor Billy Swails says he changed his mind and will not push for a strong-mayor form of government for his town.

The proposal was first introduced earlier this month. Tuesday night during town council, Swails said he's dropping the idea after getting some negative feedback.

Swails has said he didn't want to be the town's first full time mayor, but felt the idea was best for the growing town.

He initially said he would find a resident to start a petition that would force the town to vote on the issue.
