The South Carolina Stingrays (29-21-2-1) fell to the Florida Everblades (24-21-2-4) 4-3 in overtime at Germain Arena Wednesday night.
Forward Mike Hamilton put the Stingrays on the board first with a shorthanded goal 16:37 of the first period slipping a shot under the blocker of goaltender Pat Nagle (W, 19 saves on 22 shots) from the right-wing faceoff circle. Forward Trent Campbell and defenseman Derek Keller earned assists. With 15 seconds to play, Everblades forward Scott Pitt tied the contest with help from forward Alex Hutchings.
Stingrays forward Pierre-Luc O'Brien made it 2-1 on the power play at 10:53 of the second period deflecting a Brett Flemming shot past the right pad of Nagle. Forward Maxime Lacroix added the second assist.
Lacroix gave the Stingrays a two-goal lead at 9:32 of the final frame from Campbell and defenseman Andrew Krelove. The Everblades responded with two quick tallies from forward Cedric Lalonde-McNicollto make it 3-3. McNicoll pulled the game within one at 15:29 sliding a shot past the left toe of Stingrays netminder Philipp Grubauer (OTL, 37 saves on 41 shots). Forward Justin Shugg picked up the assist. At 19:01, McNicoll capitalized on the power play from defenseman Mike Ratchuk and forward David Rutherford to force overtime.
In the extra session, Everblades defenseman David Fisher buried the game-winning goal at 2:02. The assists went Hutchings and forward Matt Beca. The Stingrays wrapped up the night 1-for-4 on the power play while the Everblades finished 1-for-5.
The Stingrays continue a three-game road trip against the Everblades Friday, February 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Germain Arena and return to the North Charleston Coliseum on Saturday, February 25 against the Gwinnett Gladiators for the sixth annual Pink in the Rink presented by East Cooper Medical Center benefitting Susan G. Komen Lowcountry.
