CHARLESTON, SC -

A two run-homer in the top of the eighth was just enough to push the Georgetown Hoyas past the Buccaneers as the Charleston Southern baseball team dropped its home opener 2-1 on Friday afternoon at CSU Ballpark.

The Bucs (0-1) and the Hoyas (2-0) will meet again in a doubleheader on Saturday morning starting at 11 a.m. Due to the threat of inclement weather, Sunday's contest has been moved to Saturday afternoon. Saturday's original start time of 2 p.m. has been pushed up to 11 a.m.

Leadoff hitter Bobby Ison went 2-for-4 in his career debut for the Bucs, while team captain Jaren Sustar was also 2-for-4 on the afternoon. Brian Welch scored the team's lone run of the day, with catcher Drew Woodall driving him home.

Starter Charlie McCready went 7.1 innings, giving up five hits and two earned runs while striking out six in the loss. Senior RHP Corey Deighan threw 1.2 innings in relief with three strikeouts.

Justin Leeson was 2-for-4 with a run for the Hoyas, while Rand Ravnaas was 1-for-4 with a run and two RBI. Trevor Matern and Mike Garza each had a hit as well for Georgetown.

In the bottom of the fifth, Welch reached on a fielder's choice, advancing to second when Blake Hunt was hit by a pitch. Woodall singled to right field to drive home Welch, putting the Bucs up 1-0.

However, the Hoyas struck back in the top of the eighth, as Leeson singled through the left side then stole second. He made it to third on a sac bunt by Matern before Ravnaas homered to left field to put the Hoyas in front 2-1.

The Bucs had the chance to come back in the bottom of the eighth, as Ison singled to left field to start things off. Sustar bunted to advance Ison to second before John Faircloth hit into a double play to get Sustar out at second. Walt Quattlebaum then popped up to the shortstop to end the inning, leaving Ison stranded on third.
