Stingrays Fall 4-1 to Everblades
ESTERO, FL - The South Carolina Stingrays (29-22-2-1) dropped a 4-1 decision to the Florida Everblades (25-21-2-4) Friday night at Germain Arena. Forward Daniel Koger scored in his Stingrays debut.
Everblades forward David Rutherford kicked off the scoring 1:30 into the first period lifting a shot over the blocker of Stingrays goaltender Billy Sauer (L, 18 saves on 22 shots) from the right-wing circle. Defensemen Kevin Quick and David Fischer earned assists. Koger tied the contest on the power play with his sixth goal of the season at 4:24 from forward Trent Campbell and defenseman Zach Tarkir. The Everblades made it 2-1 at 7:46 with a tally from forward Brayden Irwin with help from forward Matt Marquardt and Quick. Forward Alex Hutchings gave the Everblades a two-goal lead late in the period with assists from forwards Scott Pitt and Cedric Lalonde-McNicoll at 15:17.
Florida added one more goal in the third period on the power play with Hutchings' second of the night at 9:10 from Pitt and forward Mathieu Roy. Everblades goaltender Pat Nagle earned his 16th win of the season stopping 34 of 35 Stingrays shots. Both teams ended the night 1-for-3 on the power play.
The Stingrays wrap up a three-game road trip against the Everblades Saturday, February 18 at 7:00 p.m. at Germain Arena and return to the North Charleston Coliseum on Saturday, February 25 against the Gwinnett Gladiators for the sixth annual Pink in the Rink presented by East Cooper Medical Center benefitting Susan G. Komen Lowcountry.
