WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Charleston police say the pedestrian accident which killed a 56-year-old woman on Sam Rittenberg Boulevard on Saturday is still under investigation.
The wreck happened near North Woodmere Drive in Charleston early Saturday morning. The Charleston County Coroner's Office says 56-year-old Darleen Banks died from blunt force trauma to the body.
A police officer said he saw the woman get hit by a motorist driving white Ford Taurus. According to police, Banks was thrown across the southbound lanes while she was attempting to cross the road.
Authorities say no charges have been filed against the driver of the Taurus at this time and that the incident remains under investigation.
