College of Charleston women's basketball head coach Nancy Wilson coached what will likely be her last game at TD Arena as the Cougars fell against Elon 63-50. Wilson, in her 30th year of coaching announced earlier this season she will retire at the conclusion of the season.
Junior Latisha Harris recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Alyssa Frye also scored in double figures with 12 points.
Wilson said after the game that although they have had a losing season in terms of their record it's been a joy to be around the group and it doesn't feel like a losing season.
The Cougars (6-22, 5-14) led by two points in the opening minutes, but the first half was largely controlled by Elon (14-13, 10-8) as they raced to a 29-19 halftime lead.
The Phoenix led by as many as 19 points in the second half, but the Cougars cut the gap to eight points at 46-38 with 8:37 remaining in the game. Elon would go on a 9-2 run as the deficit swelled to 15 for the Cougars.
CofC out rebounded Elon 50-43 and held a 19-13 advantage in second chance points as a result. Junior Cathryn Hardy had seven points and eight rebounds, including seven offensive boards.
The Cougars will finish the regular season on the road at Furman on Saturday Feb. 25 in a 2:00 p.m. game. CofC will open play in the Southern Conference Tournament on March 2 in Asheville, N.C.
