Colleton County has named Chris Collins as the new Head Football Coach the school confirmed in an email Wednesday morning. Collins replaces Leroy Riley who spent the last 24 seasons as the coach at Walterboro/Colleton County.
Collins, a Summerville native, has spent the last 2 seasons as the Head Coach at Lakewood where he was 12-10 over that span, including a trip to the playoffs in 2011. Before that he spent a season as the Head Coach at Loris.
The school district Superintendent said on Tuesday night that Collins was chosen over Calhoun County Head Coach Walter Wilson and Goose Creek assistant Scott Durham according to a report in the Times & Democrat. Collins is to be introduced at a press conference at 3:30 on Wednesday.
Riley resigned from the position back in December after back to back winless seasons for the Cougars who will begin 2012 with a 23 game losing streak. Overall Riley went 157-140 with the school winning 5 region titles and a state championship in 1997.
