BATESBURG-LEESVILLE, SC -

Dr. Jerry Brown, current County Athletic Director at Fairfield Central High in Winnsboro, has been named as the new head football coach for Batesburg-Leesville High School.  The Lexington County School District Three School Board held a special called meeting on February 21 and voted unanimously to hire Dr. Brown.

Dr. Brown has served as a head coach for 27 years and posts the following coaching record:

Ø     237 wins and 106 losses

Ø     4 State Championships at two different schools

Ø     2 teams were nationally ranked in top 15 (1989 and 1994)

Ø     Coached over 50 Division I scholarship football players and 5 NFL players

Ø     Took 25 teams at 3 different schools to playoffs in 27 years

Ø     Named Coach of the Year 5 times

Dr. Brown began his coaching career in 1970 as an assistant football coach at Spring Valley High.  He has also served as an assistant football coach at Irmo High and Richland Northeast High.  He became head football coach at Spring Valley High in 1984 and served in that capacity until 1990.  Brown assumed the duties of athletic director at Fairfield Central High in July, 1990 and then moved to Berkeley High in 1993 as Athletic Director and head football coach.

During his time at Berkeley High School, Dr. Brown and his staff rebuilt the football program into one of the top programs in South Carolina winning 175 games and taking them to 3 state AAAA Football Championships.  During this time, Berkeley was one of the smallest schools in AAAA.  Last spring, Dr. Brown decided to leave Berkeley and get out of coaching.  He and his family moved back to the Columbia area and he accepted the Athletic Director position in his hometown of Winnsboro at Fairfield Central High.  According to Dr. Brown, his main reason for applying for the head football coaching job at Batesburg-Leesville High was because of the great football tradition at Batesburg-Leesville and his love of coaching and working with young people. Brown also stated, "I have a passion to work directly with young people and I relate well to my players and feel that I want to continue coaching for many years to come."
