Police captain fired after guns found missing from department's armory

ORANGEBURG, SC (WCSC) - Officials with the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety say they have fired a police captain following an investigation of missing firearms from the department's armory.

Thad Turner, an 18-year veteran of the department, was fired on Wednesday following an internal investigation where authorities say they identified "several violations of city policy."

The department began the investigation on Feb. 16 on the possible removal of city property without authorization. The property missing was eight firearms from the department's armory.

According to the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety, Turner was placed on administrative leave without pay pending the completion of the investigation. The investigation was then turned over to SLED.
