CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Medical University of South Carolina recently announced a new smoking ban which will go into effect on March 1.

The ban, which includes all tobacco products including electronic cigarettes, will be enforced on the entire campus.  The ban also includes smoking in your car in the parking lot, or on the street out in front of MUSC property.

Sandi Jacobs, an MUSC employee and former smoker, says it's the healthy way to go.  "If you come to a hospital you need to get healthy, yet you're walking through smoking areas in order to get healthy, so I think it's counter-intuitive," she said.

Another employee, Michael Robinson, said he didn't mind the ban, even though he was a smoker.  However, he did think it was unfair for patients who wanted to smoke.

MUSC will also be offering smoking-cessation classes and other support and resources for employees and students.
