COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Deputies have arrested two people from Virginia who were arrested following a traffic stop in Colleton County after authorities found cocaine and marijuana in a car on I-95.
The Colleton County Sheriff's Office has charged 29-year-old Steven Crespo and 23-year-old Tara Ashton McCall with trafficking cocaine and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
It all started when deputies stopped a Dodge truck for a traffic violation on I-95 on Thursday at the 53 mile marker. Authorities say the driver and passenger were "extremely nervous."
A K-9 was used and alerted deputies which gave probable cause to search the truck and its contents.
According to investigators, a search revealed two packages wrapped in tape, newspaper, coffee grounds and plastic. One package was located between the bed liner and the bed of the truck and the second was located under the truck above the spare tire.
Investigators say one package contained a white powder, which field tested positive for cocaine, and the other was a green leafy material that smelled and looked like marijuana.
Both occupants were arrested and booked into the County Jail. Authorities say the suspects are from Hopewell, Va.
