Pedestrian killed by stolen truck driven by naked man

BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC/WCSC) - Authorities say one person is dead after getting hit by a naked man driving a stolen fire truck in Beaufort.

The Beaufort County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Justin Nicholas Miller, 28, of Port Royal. Authorities say Miller was walking and stopped to pick up something off the ground on Ribaut Road when he was hit and killed.

Beaufort firefighters say they were at a medical call at the Laurel Hill apartments on Ribaut Road when the suspect, 22-year-old Kalvin Hunt, of Sumter, stole the Port Royal fire truck.

Hunt allegedly caused several wrecks, including one in Port Royal and another one near the base of the Lady's Island Bridge. He then hit and killed a pedestrian along Ribaut Road near the bowling alley, according to authorities.

When Hunt finally crashed the fire truck into a tree, he was pinned inside the fire truck. He then got free and exited the fire truck and started assaulting two Beaufort police officers. During the incident, three officers and one EMT were injured. Hunt was naked when he exited the vehicle.

Hunt's family says he is a former Marine who suffers from mental illness and wasn't on his medication at the time of the incident. The family says Hunt was receiving treatment at a hospital in California and served in the Marines for over four years.

The three officers and one EMT were all treated and released from the hospital. Hunt is still in the hospital.
