NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Residents of the South Carolina Lowcountry staged a march to take back the streets.
Saturday's scheduled march in North Charleston was designed to call attention to the incidence of teen violence in the Charleston area in recent months.
OrganizerJuanita Breland, says about 300 people was expected for the event. She notes that violence has taken the lives of at least four young people in the Charleston area since late last year.
Breland said 17 of her friends have died over the years from violence.
Community groups marched to the North Charleston High School stadium where the marchers heard from speakers as well as enjoyed a gospel concert.
