Police: Man ticketed after hitting motorcyclist with vehicle

JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - A man was ticketed after hitting a motorcyclist with his vehicle on James Island Tuesday morning, police say.

Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said the wreck happened around 7:20 a.m. on Maybank Highway near the intersection with Fleming Road.

Francis said the man in the automobile made a left turn onto Fleming Road, in front of a motorcyclist heading towards downtown Charleston.

The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered injuries but none were life-threatening. He was taken to MUSC.

The motorist was charged with failure to yield the right of way.  Eastbound lanes of Maybank Highway were closed for about 20 minutes near the wreck.
