Charleston fire chief hospitalized days before retirement

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston fire chief scheduled to retire later this week has been hospitalized.

Charleston City Fire spokesman Mark Ruppel confirmed Tuesday that Chief Thomas W. Carr Jr. is currently at MUSC after experiencing complications from Parkinson's disease.

A retirement party planned this Friday for the chief has been postponed.

Chief Carr was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease during April 2010.  He announced his retirement during the middle of September 2011.

His last scheduled day is on Thursday.
