WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Charleston police arrested two men early Wednesday morning after they allegedly punched a CVS Pharmacy employee in the face and stole cigarettes.
Police officers arrested 41-year-old Juan Tyrae Jackson and 47-year-old Lavar Dalao Brown on strong arm robbery charges.
Officers responded to the CVS Pharmacy on Savannah Highway around 1 a.m. The incident began when an employee, who was restocking a shelf, saw a man behind the counter grabbing cartons of Newport cigarettes and other items and placing them into a CVS shopping basket.
The employee approached the man and grabbed the basket. The man then punched the employee in the face and ran out of the store with a carton of cigarettes.
The officer first on scene observed a red Hyundai Accent occupied by two men exit the pharmacy's parking lot at a high rate of speed. The officer initiated a traffic stop of the car and arrested the two men, later identified as Jackson and Brown, for the robbery.
Both suspects are being held in the Charleston County Detention Center. The investigation is ongoing.
