Suspect caught on video breaking into van in downtown

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston Police Department is on the lookout for a man who broke into a van in downtown Tuesday afternoon.

Officers responded to the area of King and Fisburne streets in reference to a theft from a vehicle. The victim told officers that someone broke into his van and stole two tools, a driver and a drill.

Police found the driver inside its case beside a nearby house but were unable to locate the drill. Video surveillance shows an unknown black male pacing back and forth near the vehicle for several minutes.

The video then shows the suspect pulling on the back door handle before breaking the rear passenger window with his elbow.

The suspect then opened the door and took the tools.

Authorities describe the suspect as a black male, medium build, gray hair, wearing a green polo shirt and blue work pants with white paint on them.
