MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Fire officials say a bolt of lightning sparked a house fire in the I'on Village subdivision of Mt. Pleasant on Thursday afternoon.

Mt. Pleasant Fire Department units responded to the fire at 35 Krier Lane around 1 p.m.

Officials say lightning struck the metal tubing on the outside of the home which followed copper wire into the third floor of the home, where the fire originated.

It doesn't appear that the fire caused excessive damage.  Fire officials said the family will not need assistance, as crews were able to patch a hole in the roof caused by the lightning.

20 firefighters responded to the scene and no one was injured.
