Driver sought for leaving scene of accident, police chase

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police are on the lookout for a driver accused of leaving the scene of an accident and leading officers on a car chase in North Charleston.

The North Charleston Police Department is looking for 21-year-old Laron K. Seels. Officers say they attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Seels for a traffic violation near the Accabee neighborhood.

According to investigators, the driver didn't stop and continued on to Dorchester Road through the Brentwood neighborhood where he was able to elude police.

Police say a short time later the vehicle was found abandoned at Dorchester Road and Meeting Street.

Seels is currently driving under suspension and has an active warrant with the City of North Charleston for simple possession of marijuana.

Seels will also faces additional charges to include failure to stop for blue lights, trespass, malicious damage to property over $5000, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage over $5000 and driving under suspension.

Charleston County School District spokesman Jason Sakran said Military Magnet, Mary Ford Elementary, Daniel Jenkins Academy, and Burns Elementary were locked down around 10:30 a.m. The lock-down was lifted just after 11:30 a.m.
