BEAUFORT, SC (WCSC) - A Ridgeland woman was arrested on multiple charges after deputies say she attempted to flee during a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon. Deputies found drugs in the car.
Around 1 p.m. Tuesday, members of the Beaufort and Jasper County multi-agency drug task force attempted to conduct a traffic stop for a violation on Ramsey Road.
The vehicle, a Toyota Corolla operated by 25-year old Ikea Ada Lynn Hawkins, initially pulled over on Glaze Drive, but as deputies approached, the passenger jumped out of the car and fled.
As investigators attempted to detain the passenger, Hawkins accelerated, nearly striking the deputies as she sped away. The vehicle was then located a short distance ahead after it suffered severe damaged in a collision with a fence.
Hawkins was arrested at the scene. After searching the car, investigators found marijuana, crack cocaine and prescription pills. The South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the scene and conducted the accident investigation.
No injuries were reported as a result of the collision. The passenger was not located and remains unidentified at this time.
