2 arrested after cops find drugs, cash and stolen handgun in apartment

WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Police arrested a man and a woman Thursday after finding cocaine, marijuana, cash, and a stolen handgun inside their West Ashley apartment.

Special investigators with the Charleston Police Department executed a search warrant at a Little John Drive apartment and found 37 grams of cocaine, a gram of marijuana, $1,125 and a stolen handgun.

Police charged 25-year-old Damon Smith and 23-year-old Charnise Nicole Gadsden with trafficking cocaine and possession of cocaine base with intent to distibute within close proximity of a school. Smith is also charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and possession of a stolen handgun.

Both suspects are being held in the Charleston County Detention Center.
