Six-year-old beauty queen performs in Statesboro bar

College bars tend to get a little bit crazy, but the girl you see in these pictures on top of the bar, isn't a university student. In fact, she's only six years old.

Alana Thompston, also known as "Honey Boo Boo Child" is a regular on The Learning Channel's show, Toddlers & Tiaras. The beauty queen isn't shy on camera, or how she works the stage.

"I'm going to be sassy, do good, and work that stage," Alana told WTOC.

But it was a promotional event at Rum Runners Thursday night that's causing a lot of concern. Alana's mom, June Shannon, says the six year old wasn't on a bar, but on a stage in the back of the establishment.

"They had five security guards there on top of her at all times," explained June. "There were a lot of people there, and they brought them in little by little. We were there a total of 30 minutes. Nobody said anything out of the way to her. Nobody touched her."

June says the bar owner is a family friend who wanted to promote Alana's growing popularity. The little girl has been interviewed by Anderson Cooper and Diane Sawyer, just to name a few.

"It isn't about the money," said June. "It was more about people wanting to get out and meet her. Yeah, maybe to some parents it was the wrong avenue but my child was not in the main bar area."

Even Alana didn't seem to mind it.

"They gave me dollars," she exclaimed.

"How much did you get?"

"I don't know, I just got a bunch of it," she said.

While many may be upset with how Alana's being promoted, her mom couldn't be more proud.

"I never did think the Toddlers & Tiaras show would turn in to all this," said June. "Right now, we're enjoying this ride."

WTOC did try and get in touch with Rum Runners to hear their side of the issue but no one ever answered the phone.

Meanwhile, Alana and her mom will be in Darien tomorrow at the McIntosh County Middle School. Alana will do a meet and greet and be an Honorary Queen for the day. There is also a pageant at the middle school from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
